On Thursday 9th of October 2014, Indonesia Bandung Chapter of ACM SIGCHI successfully organised and held an engaging ‘Usability and User Experience’ Workshop. Starting with a welcoming cuppa, participants gathered at UNPAR, Cimbuleuit Campus, in the Faculty of Industrial Engineering Building.
With pertinent and comical videos and pictures, participants together built understanding of ‘usability’ with the facilitation of vibrant Johanna Hariandja. She guided participants to consider the basics and use some tools of usability testing with the overall goal of improving products. Following this introduction, participants gained practical experience with Morae software testing usability. Participants now armed with some skills, tools and experience were encouraged to “Be a usability superhero” in their future product designs.
Thedy Yogasara lead the next session, aligning our thinking to current consumer paradigms where “It’s not about products anymore, it is about the experiences they deliver” – quoting Hassenzahl, 2010. Hedonic and Pragmatic qualities of user experience were explored, with participants encouraged to consider aesthetic and emotional experiences along with the experience of meaning when developing products. His presentation also outlined evaluation methods and ideas to get started in UX.
Our afternoon activities involved interaction with Tobii eye tracking hard and software, to help participants be familiar with psychological aspects of drawing client/customer attention in user experiences. This session was presented by the capable Catharina Nawangpalupi and Kristiana Damayanti
The participants of various institutions not only were immersed in a very well organised, professional workshop building skills and knowledge, with confident and humble presenters, they were also facilitated in growing their network of contacts in a very friendly hospitable atmosphere.
Johanna closed the day’s activities outlining of future events and invitation to receive membership benefits in joining with ACM SIGCHI. An excellent day with practical knowledge and experience and connecting with others in the field was had by all! Thanks Bandung Branch and UNPAR for hosting.
